My very first NYX haul

Ever since I knew the existence of Sephora, I’ve always wanted to pay a visit there because of Urban Decay.

Then, I got to know that NYX are brought to Malaysia, and it’s at Sephora. That made me want to visit Sephora even more!

So, on my previous trip back home, I decided to pay Sephora KLCC a visit. I was so excited to swatch the Naked Pallette and the Blockbuster pallette. The Naked pallete was amazing but the Blockbuster pallete was not up to my expectation.

After all that swatching and stuff, I searched for NYX counter. I must say, I liked it! I was on a hunt for this particular coral-ish lip colour and I happened to find it there! NYX offers quite a number of colours which suits all skin tone. Besides, they are quite cheap and affordable.

After trying out the products there, I decided to take up the stick blush and lip cream. After a while, one of their MUA, Nurul offered to help me with some make up on. I am of course very glad! She helped me to put on everyday-to work make up. She made me remove whatever make up I had on my face (only my moisturizer, compact powder, eyeliner, mascara and lipstick). Nurul then cleaned, toned and moisturized my face using some Clinelle product if I am not mistaken. While having my face cleansed, she gave me some tips on make up. She also told me to try modeling as according to her, I have the features required to be one. *Shy*

Prior to that, she applied Sephora foundation powder, followed by Urban Decay Single eyeshadow to define my eyes, Givenchy mascara to lift my lashes (after complementing my lashes. Thanks Nurul!), cream blusher from NYX as base and also NYX powder blusher to set. For lips, I applied NY lipbalm followed by NYX lip cream in Antwerp.

I really loved the outcome, as I looked so fresh without looking as though I had much make up on. Before leaving, Nurul sprayed some setting spray so that my make up remains fresh throughout the day.

Finally, after picking up that stick blush and the lip cream, I headed off to the cashier to pay. I signed up to be a member and I’ve gotten myself a Sephora White Card. Not only that, I received free gifts from NYX as well. A lip gloss and a drawstring laced back. How nice!

My haul that day was not only at Sephora but also The Body Shop! I bought myself a body mist. I just fell in love with the scent.

Next? Pictures!

FOTD – Deejay on the floor

Last week, I had to spend the nights at work. Due to our production to launch our studio. I was the person in charge of the multimedia. Not the deejay by the way :P The title sounds cool, that’s why the I put them as such.

Everyone in the production will be having some make ups on, so I decided to put up some make up as well. Not that I don’t make up on other days, but I had taken some extra effort to put some extra make up on my face for the event. On normal days, I go bare faced or eyeliner + lipstick one day, lipstick and very subtle blusher on another day. I don’t do my eye shadows to work normally. I keep it for special occasions.

Since I have scored several likes on my profile picture in Facebook, I thought of doing a breakdown on what I had on my face. (though I know the picture looks nice because of the lighting :P)

boria

I applied my compact powder all over my face to create a smooth canvas. I used Pixy compact powder. Cheap and good.

On my lids, I had my Avon Mineral Eye Shadow in Mocha Goddess (Review: here)and a black eye liner pencil on. I skipped mascara though (I forgot to bring mine actually =.="). I first applied the eyeliner, smudged it, applied the eye shadow with a light hand and applied the eyeliner again at the base of my lash line, to make my lashes look thick as though I applied mascara.

Cheeks, I left them bare.

On my lips, I had a nude lipstick. I used my Revlon Blushing Nude lipstick (Review : here)

That’s all. Nothing more and nothing less.

Hope you’ll like my do.

Avon Smooth Mineral Eyeshadow in Mocha Goddess

This is the very first mineral make up stuff i have ever bought. As you all know, the ravings about mineral makeups is that it is not harmful to the skin that even the sensitive skin beauties can use them without any worries.

p20121016-142729

I found this by accident, as I don’t intend to purchase them at the first place.(Refer here: http://theumbrellagurl.blogspot.com/2012/10/an-unexpected-haul-form-avon.html)

This range comes in loose powder form, that is, you have to be careful to apply it. Fortunately, Avon had its container designed as such so that you don’t have to worry so much about spillage and wastage of the product.

p20121016-142834

Avon Smooth Mineral in Mocha Goddess comes in a sturdy transparent plastic container with a screw cap lid. I love that the lid is a screw cap lid as it offers a lot of protection. The container also comes with a nice brush, placed halfway dipping into the product. So, you don’t need a separate brush for the shadow, and you don’t have to worry about how much product to pick on a brush as the brush picks up a decent amount of shadow on it. Besides, the brush is soft enough to act as a blending brush.

p20121016-142905

p20121016-143025

However, since the product comes in loose form, I get fallouts a lot. I have to apply loose powder on my cheeks generously so that I can brush off the excess shadow.

p20121016-142756

Mocha Goddess is a warm, shimmery brown with a hint of copper in it. Very subtle for day way, and the color is buildable for more intensity. The shadow lone can be used to create gradient on the eyelid, by placing a generous amount of shadow very close to the lash line and blending the color upwards to soften the color.

p20121016-143225

Swatch (2 swipes) : L- with base; R- without base

I am not sure about the exact price though, but I can assure you that it is very affordable. The product comes in an amount of 2.3g, and I personally think it will last me for quite sometimes as I prefer it sheer.

It really blends into my skin, offering a slight color to my lids. It’s like the no make up look with a slight shimmering effect (read: not glittery).

Mocha Goddess lasts pretty long, about4-5 hours before it starts fading out without primer. I can say that the color can last up to eight hours on the lid with a good base.

Overall, I love the product, seeing that its’ affordable, great color, smoothness of application and does not irritate the eye.

The only concern is on the fallouts, but as I mentioned above, it can be fixed with loose powder.

How to get gorgeous curly/wavy hair with minimal effort.

This is going to be a l'il vain post. LOL.

Okay, you can laugh all you can but..okay,leave it.
Let's get straight to the point.

I have been getting compliments on my hair. I dare to say this because I have been receiving them every now and then, and the most convincing compliment is from the saloon lady.
You and I know that saloon lady knows every thing about hair styles, right?

Okay, if you want, you can have a look at my side bar, titled Beautiful Black to have a look at my curls.

I actually curled my hair long, long time ago like waaayyy before my graduation. By the way, my graduation was on the month of October,2011. And the photo was snapped on December 2011.
So,by right, the curls ought to loosen themselves out,no?

Anyway, my routine on how I maintain my hair is that, I make sure I use a good hair conditioner everytime I shampoo my hair. I stick to that regime to get soft and manageable curls. Trust me,it works.

Next, I make sure that my hair is not tangled. After my hair washes, I finger-comb them gently to remove all the unwanted tangles. Only then do I apply hair crème.

Speaking of hair crème, I suggest using curling crème or curling lotion to get the soft, bouncy curls instead of curling mousse as mousse gives you the stiff curls.Stiff curls look defined and pretty, yes, but I prefer natural looking curl.

I refrain myself from combing/brushing my hair after I applied hair crème to avoid 'big',bushy hair.

To get the most out of my naturally wavy + previously permed hair, I clip/pull my hair up into a loose bun when my hair is about 95% wet. Sometimes,I leave them overnight.
The result will be natural-looking curls which are defined and all bouncy.
However, I will never pull my hair up when they are wet,as puling your hair up when they are wet can get you into headaches and colds.

Sometimes, I do use Elips Hair Capsule to add to my hair care.

That is my hair regime.

Now, just yesterday I had my hair trimmed at the saloon, layered it with a fringe.
I adore this style,as I never really had a fringe.

I will keep on following my hair regime, as I call it and I hope I'll like this style till I find a better one :)

P/S: No photos, sorry ;)

Pink Lips - How to

There can only be two type of lipstick girls; red lipstick girls and pink lipsticks girls. Some prefer pink lipsticks and some fancy red lipsticks. And me, I wear all; red lippies, pink lippies, nude lippies and also natural lippies (which means no lipstick, only clear lipbalm).

Why do people, I mean girls/women wear lipstick?
1. To be pretty
2. To look confident
3. To look matured (high school kids)
4. To conceal imperfect lips
5. To look and be kissable (LOL! I just came up randomly of this, how far it's true, I never know)

Do we really need those lipsticks/lip gloss/lip tint/lip paint on our lips like all the time to be as per above?
Is there any ways that we could avoid the lip products from being on our lips like 24/7?

Recently, I came across this useful tips, which I have tried for more than one month I think, unsure about he exact date when I started practising it.It worked, though it takes some time. Well, homemade remedies are sure to work, though it takes time ☺

The tip which I would like to share about is how to get a naturally pink lips.

How to:

1. After brushing your teeth everyday, gently use the toothbrush to exfoliate your lips in a circular motion. This   will remove the dead skin thus giving you a brighter and fuller looking lips. Not to forget, a temporary fuller looking lips as well.
2. Always protect your lips will lipbalm with SPF. The higher the SPF,the better it is. Even if you are just staying indoors, lip balm is necessary as it prevents the lips from drying and also protects your lips from the harmful UVA and UVB sunlight, which may induce lip pigmentation, hence dark lips.
3. DO NOT lick your lips often, you are only making your lips more prone to dryness everytime you do so.
4. Use good lip products, with vitamins and again SPF.
5. Applying olive oil will do your lips good.
6. Applying lemon juice on your lips is said to be good for making the lips lighter as they have natural skin lightening property, but I am yet to try them on.
7. The best lip tips which I am practising and am a living proof of its effectiveness is to apply HONEY on my lips every night before sleeping.

The exceptional skin benefits of honey

Honey is a natural moisturizer, whereby it absorbs the moisture from the air around us and transfers it to the lips. Lips, which does not have any sebaceous gland to produce sebum/oil to protect and moisturize the itself, willingy takes up all the moisture which the honey can provide. Thus, making the lips look healty, moisturized and a tad pinker with daily application. Also, it helps to reduce the fine lines on the lips and makes the lips to look plumper.

Of course, my lips aren't fully pink yet, as it will take more time for me to see the full effect. Or maybe I won't get a fully pink lips as dark lips could be hereditary.

Nevertheless, I've seen a positive change and I'll keep trying as long as no harm done.

Do try and let me know how it works on you.

Fair skin - How to

Everyone wants clear and fair skin. Because beauty is skin deep, and we want to look the best as we can.
Many beauty products are there available in the market. Some works wonders on people's skin, while some makes the skin become worst.

Skin type and condition is also a factor that must be taken into account. Using products according to skin type will help to reduce the skin problems.

But, as many as the beauty products out there, many people are still in search for the right product and the right brand. If they happen to find the right product, it may be too costly or maybe it's just too good to be true that they start switching to other products again.

To reduce the cost and all the probabilities which I do not want to encounter, I tried this home made DIY mask for fair and clear skin. I have combination skin by the way. I am unsure about its' effectiveness in making my skin fairer, but I am pretty sure of it's effectiveness as a good facial scrub.

The ingredients:

2 teaspoon of Oryza Sativa

One tablespoon of honey

Strong, saturated tea to the desired amount.

How to make the paste?

1. Grind the rice grains.
2. Mix the honey into the powdered rice grains together with the tea. Mix a tiny bit of tea at first.
3. Stir the mixture to a thick paste. You may want to add in some tea if the mixture is too thick.
4. Apply it on your face and wait for it to dry before you wash your face.

A very simple and easy-to-do mask.

I personally left the mask on my face for quite some time as honey do not dry easily.
I got tired of waiting so after an hour or so, I washed the mask off.
While getting the mask off, I massaged/scrubbed my face in circular motion as the mask is not easy to wash off. I noticed that though I ground the rice grains into fine powders, I can still feel their course texture against my skin.
I went all the way scrubbing the paste of my face and rinsed my face with warm water.

The result?

Super smooth and soft skin! I was not expecting that for the results. * I don't even know what am I expecting, it was merely a try*
The powdered rice acts as a scrub, removing dead cells on my face while the honey acts as natural moisturiser as honey locks the skin moisture. The tea acts to cool and soothe the skin.

I am happy that such simple ingredients and steps helps me to get a softer and smoother skin. Maybe with frequent usage, my skin will become fairer. I will have to try and see.

Do try it on if you have time and do let me know how it turns out on you.

Essence Blusher- How Cute is That? Review

This will be my review on Multicolor Blush from Essence, a product of Germany.

2011-11-08 19.49.17

I bought mine in Jusco Seremban when I was roaming around in Guardian, looking for a blusher.*2 months ago

Then I came across this section called Essence and their blusher caught my eyes. They are so cute! After convinced by the sales girl, I bought the blusher called How Cute Is That? She also provided me with a booklet of their product range.

2011-11-08 19.50.04

I wouldn’t say they make a very good blusher, but they are definitely good highlighter. The color is neither metallic nor mate, its a little bit shimmery, more like sheen. I use it if I feel like having a glow/bronzed effect.

Swatches. Sorry that I couldn’t snap a clearer picture of the swatches.

I managed to find one of their outlets in Tesco Ampang, inside Guardian more likely.

I am definitely going to try on their lip glosses, make-up base and also their nail polishes.

Will do a review on them once I got them as there are not many reviews on Essence products :)

How to look fresh?

Okay, say hi to the noob me. So ‘jakun’ of make up :P

I always wanted a peachy-coral blush, just to make a change from the common pink blush.

I got myself Elianto Blush Pot in Dessert Rose. The look more orange than peach.

*Courtesy from the net.DSC04228

Sorry that I didn’t snap any pictures of my own blusher.I did not intend to do a review on it anyways.

They come in a compact case with mirror and small brush.

The brush was not useful, though.

Back to the story.

So.yeah.The color appeared to be pigmented that I have to blend them in really well, in soft strokes.

The results, they made the whole appearance looked fresh! I heart it so much. Only a little bit of blush for more.

But, I have to be careful not to overdo them as I am not fair. SO I have to be careful with the intensity of the blush. After all, I don’t want to be seen with patched cheeks!!

Anyways, how do I complete the whole look with this blusher?

Nothing much.

First, I apply my daily face cream. Then, I line my waterline with my kohl or eyeliner or kajal. Then, I swirl my brush on the blush, blow of excess blush and swipe them lightly on the apples of my cheek.

I apply my loose powder/compact powder on.I finish of with my Lip Ice Sheer Color.

That’s all. It made me look fresh, and I feel energetic looking at my fresh-looking face.

And of course, i drink a LOT of plain water.

^_^

I love colors!

I just LOVE colors. Eye-make ups above done by me – for prom, for fun,for party.

Not an expert, but a passion <3

I even did a whole face make-up for my roomie for her dance event. Smokey eye in silver + black, rosy cheeks and berry red lips, which she received tones of compliments. Couldn’t find the picture :(

Eyeliner collections: I just love their colors. Blue, green, purple. You name them! Wish i can get more of them.

Hrmm..maybe I will ask my Mum to be my guinea pig for more experimentation on colors!!

Violet Shine - Guardian

I find it weird,as when i consulted Uncle Google, I can’t find any reviews on lip gloss from Guardian.

Maybe it’s not famous at all?

Or is it that bad that no one even tried it on?

Hrmm..I still have the question mark..

Nevertheless,I’m doing a simple stupid, useless review here, just to give those who might want to purchase it a rough idea.

The one I bought is called Violet Shine, and it’s violet in color.

I bought it under a promotion at a price of RM6.88.It’s original price will be about RM11.88.

It glides smoothly, and it has this purplish-pink color, which goes on natural on my lips.

Not very long-lasting,maybe because i smack my lips often.

However,it has this sweet smell and sweet taste, which I don’t adore at all T_T.

Overall,I would say okay but if I were asked will I repurchase it,I will have to think first.

A few snaps, thanks to my useless phone camera @_@:

Fashion mistake.

In Malaysia, Chinese girls are among those who knew their fashion very well.In fact, they are the one who tame the western fashion in Malaysia.making them wearable in our quite typical society.

However, not all knew their fashion well.Recently,I saw one in a shopping complex near my place. She is an L-sized girl, with a pair of white leggings.Leggings is an on-the-go material right now,but wear it right and it will be pleasing to others eyes. This particular girl, she wore the leggings with a short tops.Which means we know exactly how her bum shape is.Which means we know she is wearing a low cut undies. And which we know she is wearing a striped one.

DosDonts_Page_1

See? The girl might or might not realize, but it is soooo not nice for those who saw, right?

So get your fashion right and be fashionable.

All nails

What colour will one get if they mix a blue shade and a pink shade from Elianto?

CandyPink

Courtesy of Lessa the Dressah

Well, recently for my birthday my brother got me three bottles of nail polishes from Elianto: Blue Splash, Candy Pink and Indian Red.

Well, those are really amazing colours for a guy to choose I think.Anyways,I am in love with the Blue Splash. It is so blue and it is something different. Not many Indians will go for that colour, and well I’m proud to stand out in the crowd last week in a temple. The colours gave me the confidence every girl of my age needs.Apparently, I saw another girl having the same shades on her nail, and from her Facebook profile, she’s a dancer.

I had that colour on my nails for about two weeks then i decided to give it a little touch, as per the idea of my roomies back in AIMST University, house code C2L room 1, Miss Vaishnevi Thanaseharan and Miss Megala Devi Sri.

As for the result,i got this amazing new shade of purple, which is simply gorgeous!!

23062011

The picture is not so clear,as I used my phone to snap it and the colour is not intense enough in the picture.Get imaginative by adding more pink on the nails and I’m pretty sure you can see the colour on my nails now :)

Get creative!!
